The Cost of Goods (COG) helps the members have an understanding of the “estimated” profitability of each product in their catalog. It is the sum of the total costs configured for a selected time range. In cases where there is more than 1 COG value configured for the selected time range, the system displays the latest one.

The COG will be displayed on Dashboard > Active Products and the DST, specifically on the Parent-Child and Child pages. It is displayed as “COG: $XXX.XX“ under the child ASINs and under parent ASINs that don’t have any variations. The COG value and link will not be displayed on the Parent Totals screen.

On click of the COG link, it will display a small text field where members can input a custom  COGS price value.

The COGS and Gross Profit column

The COGS and Gross Profit column is displayed on the Active Products and all DST level pages. It is placed under the Total Sales group.

Column display on Active Products

COGS

For Child ASINs and parent ASINs with no variations, this column will show the total COGS, based on the number of units sold (COG per unit multiplied by Total Units). While for Parent ASINs with variations, it shows the sum of values of the Child ASINs.

Gross Profit

For Child ASINs and parent ASINs with no variations, this column will show the total COGS, based on the below formula:

Gross Profit = Revenue - COGS - Ad Spend - Off-Amazon Ad Spend - (Unit Sold * FBA Fee) - (Unit Sold * Referral Fee)

For Parent ASINs with variations, it shows the sum of the values of the Child ASINs.

The My Products Page

The My Products page is a separate page that displays all the ASINs, both parents and child ASINs. It can be found by navigating to the side navigation bar, between the Dashboard and Keyword Research buttons.

This page displays a table of products along with the available tools, similar to the current Dashboard, but is more intensive on the details and data for the Cost of Goods.

Members may also group the displayed ASINs, manage their brands, and customize which columns they are to display on the table.

The Cost Type and COGS Column

On click of the Cost Type of a product, members can change it to either be by Period or Constant.

If the selected Cost Type is Constant, the members may input their COGS price value by clicking on the configure link. But if the selected Cost Type is by Period, on click of the configure link, the COG popup modal will be shown, where they can input their custom cost elements, and values – the COGS column now displays the value for the current day.

The COG Modal Configuration Elements

Date Boxes

This is where the member can select a date range should they decide to input custom data for a specific range.

For the first and default configuration period, it contains the Beginning of Time (-∞) to End of Time (+∞) by default, but members may set their own range by clicking on the Add another Period button.

Notes:

  • A specific range with a custom beginning and end of time will only be shown for ranges in the middle of the initial beginning and end time range.

  • The latest date (end time) always appears at the top and the oldest date (beginning time) appears at the bottom. The middle ranges, however, will stay in the middle of the beginning and end ranges.

Configuration Columns

There are configuration columns displayed wherein members may edit and input their custom values. Apart from the two cost elements that are displayed by default, members may also add up to 6 cost elements.

Cost element

By default, there will only be 2 cost elements displayed which are the "Manufacturing" and "Shipping".

Notes:

  • The member can still rename the cost elements should they want to.

  • If there is only one cost element displayed, then it cannot be deleted.

Amount

This is an input field for custom values up to 2 decimal places – by default, this is set as "$ 0.00"

Units

This is an input field for the number of units as whole numbers – by default, this is set as "0".

Amount per Unit

This is the value of the Amount divided by the Units. This should auto calculate once there are values in either the Amount or Units sections.

Manually Uploading COGS

Members may manually upload their COGS data by clicking on the Upload COGS button on the upper right.

They will be asked to download a template file where they can edit and input their COGS data and product titles for their ASINs in their selected store. Once they have the file ready, they can import it into the modal to bulk update their table.

If the member has previously exported COGS, they can reimport that file and the changes will be applied as follows:

  • Constant COGS will be overwritten.

  • By Period COGS will be adjusted accordingly.

  • If the starting date is present in the database, the items will be overwritten based on their name.

    • If the starting date is not present, it will be added and the start/end dates of the rest will be adjusted.

Exporting COGS

To export the COGS data, members can simply click on the Export COGS button on the upper right, beside the Upload COGS button.

On click of this button, it will automatically generate an XSLX file with the same format as the template file provided when uploading a COGS CSV file.
